Lighthouse
tours are over for this 2008 season.
Even with all the rain, nearly 800 visitors got to go to
Wood Island to learn about maritime and lighthouse
history.
Check back
next June for information about next summer's 2009
tours.
A tour to Wood Island Lighthouse is run by the
Friends of Wood Island Lighthouse, an all volunteer,
501(c)(3) nonprofit. The lighthouse is located off the
coast of Biddeford Maine and tours leave from Vine's
Landing in Biddeford Pool. The guided tour takes about 1
1/2 hours and is subject to Mother Nature and her weather
and sea conditions.
When are
the tours?
The tours are held in July and August at the above
mentioned times and days.
Is the
tower open on the tours?
We have reopened the tower to visitors this year. Please
click here to read about the Tower Rules.
How do I
get on a tour?
Call the reservation line (207-286-3229)
between 9AM to 5PM, Tuesday through Friday for tours each
week. Reservations may be made in June. We only make
reservations for the current week's tour. Calling other
days is by chance. This line is handled entirely by
volunteers.
Do
current FOWIL members get tour priority?
Yes, they may make reservations a week in advance.
What is
the price of the boat ride and tour?
There is no fixed charge for the boat-ride
and tour. However, donations are encouraged (suggested
minimum $10/person) and gratefully accepted, all
donations going to the cost of running the boat and the
ultimate mission of restoring Wood Island Lighthouse.
This is a long term and costly endeavor that is most
worthwhile, as we are confident you will agree,
especially after you experience Wood Island Lighthouse in
person by means of a FOWIL tour.
How do I
get there?
Drive to Vine's Landing in Biddeford Pool.
